Razor

Master the art of sword jumping to traverse a decayed kingdom and confront its dark, immortal ruler in The Last Heir, a strategic 2D platformer.

Concept

"Betrayer of blood, end the mad kings reign..."

The Last Heir is a 2D platformer set in a dark fantasy world. The Kingdom of Erden has fallen to a terrible darkness. Ruins litter the land, and the streets run red with blood and foul magic.

In his desperation to escape death, King Erden turned to forbidden arts. These dark magics twisted his people and corrupted the land, leaving the kingdom a hollow shell of its former glory.

Now, as the last of Erden's bloodline—a bastard son—it falls to you to confront the King and end the nightmare he has unleashed.

USPs:

>>>Unique traversal mechanics

>>>Puzzle first design

>>>Complicated yet intuitive map design

>>>Atmospheric

>>>Procedural Environment Art and Customized Platforms

Genre and Tropes:
The base game acts as a basic puzzle platformer with basic combat mechanics. Puzzles take the form of difficult terrain, traps, fetch quests, and interactable environments. Minimal combat. Possibly use combat animations to traverse? Many Metroid Vania's emphasize combat in some aspect. I'd like this game to instead use weapons as more of a tool. While games like Hollow Knight do something similar it is solely used as a double jump refresh/bounce mechanic.

Procedural Development:

In a limited timeframe (3 months) and with a small team, but without compromising on the quality or scale of the map, the environment artist decided to adopt an entirely procedural approach using Houdini. A solver was also used to simulate smoke, fire (Pyro, combined with Niagara), hair, chains (Vellum), and dynamic/static destruction (RBD).
